COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AND EVENTS
We are working with communities across East Birmingham to help shape the Sports Quarter. We believe in the future of this city and delivering lasting benefits for its people. Listening to the people who live, work, study and spend time here is central to achieving that.
ENGAGEMENT SO FAR
In autumn 2025, we held a series of workshops and a public exhibition to understand what matters most to the people of East Birmingham today. We spoke with community organisations, young people, residents and fans.
In 2026, we continued these conversations through further community and resident workshops and public events. Together, we explored how local priorities could shape the plans and create a Sports Quarter that works for local people.
What’s next
Local people have contributed valuable knowledge and ideas throughout this process, which will help shape the Sports Quarter
Over the coming months, we will carefully consider everything we have heard, alongside the developing technical and design work. We’ll return early next year with updated plans that people can help test and shape, and invite everyone to take part.
This is your neighbourhood. Help shape what it becomes.

What local people want from the Sports Quarter
Our community conversations have highlighted several priorities:
- Good jobs and opportunities - creating pathways into work, supporting local enterprise and raising young people’s aspirations.
- More sport and activity - making a wider range of sports and activities accessible to people across East Birmingham and the city.
- Better connections - creating safer walking and cycling routes that connect the Sports Quarter with surrounding neighbourhoods.
- Greener, more connected spaces – encouraging wellbeing and everyday use of parks.
- Spaces for local people - creating welcoming places for women, young people and families, alongside inclusive community facilities.
- Celebrate local identity - bringing East Birmingham’s history and culture to life through art, public spaces and events.
