BIRMINGHAM CITY FC’S
PROPOSED NEW HOME REFLECTS A CITY AND REGION ON THE RISE

Concept designs have been unveiled for Birmingham City Football Club’s new 62,000-capacity stadium, which will sit at the heart of the Sports Quarter development in Bordesley Green, East Birmingham.

The designs have been developed by world-renowned Heatherwick Studio and MANICA Architecture, in collaboration with acclaimed writer, filmmaker and lifelong Blues supporter, Steven Knight.

The stadium will become a major new landmark that reflects the region’s industrial heritage while embracing cutting-edge engineering. As well as a world-class home to the Blues and a multifunctional sports and entertainment venue, it will be a year-round hub for the community.

A LOCAL ASSET

As well as a home for football, the stadium will be a buzzing centre for the local community too.

Our vision for the space is a year-round destination. From food markets, restaurants and cafes to social spaces and children’s play areas, the area will be a place where everyone can come together and enjoy a new part of the city.

The stadium will be a key part of the wider Sports Quarter development and will see billions of investment into East Birmingham.

We are undergoing a period of engagement and consultation on the Sports Quarter, speaking to local people, fans, political representatives and planning officers before lodging a planning application.

A GLOBAL DESTINATION

The stadium will put Birmingham proudly on the global stage, attracting the very best events.

On matchdays, its structure will create an unforgettable atmosphere, with the stands as close to the pitch as can be allowed.

The acoustics will also amplify the crowd internally, while the ‘chimneys’ will funnel sound upward, minimising noise in the neighbourhood.

It will be specifically designed with flexibility in mind to host a range of other major sporting fixtures, music concerts and entertainment events, with a retractable roof and moveable pitch.

One of the ‘chimneys’ will also house a lift to transport visitors up to what will be the highest bar in Birmingham, with views over the city and an immersive experience telling stories of Birmingham’s past.
